Barbie girl

Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to organize costume parties; there is just something intriguing about becoming a totally different character, even if it’s just for a day. Last night one of my long time costume party ideas came to reality, when we celebrated my birthday with a Barbie & Ken theme. Unfortunately I don’t have too much material of my fabulous guests’ outfits (and they would probably kill me if I published anything) but at least you can see my dress that I’ve been saving for ages, the decorations, and the amazing Barbie cake made by Laura’s big sister from the Jauhot Suussa blog.

After Sing Staring and being stuffed from all the party food, we headed to Hang the Dj club which was also celebrating it’s birthday. I was particularly happy when they played Prince’s Raspberry Beret from request but naturally the birthday girl should get her wish, right?

I want to thank all my guests for showing up, you all looked so lovely! Next time we are dressing up for Halloween, oh yes yes yes!

Innocent line

Yesterday I celebrated my birthday in a surprisingly cold weather with Indian food and some late night shopping. I wanted to dress comfy yet dressy, and I think this black tent dress suited the purpose perfectly. I guess I never really introduced this piece by Velour properly but it was one of the discount finds made last summer. I really like how the dress looks fitted on the front but when you look at the back, it’s actually almost cape-like. Watch out, bat girl is on the move!

Checkmate!

I have this bad habit of leaving all my “in need of sewing” type of projects laying around the apartment for ages, until I actually manage to do something about them. Same story goes for this checkered skirt I bought from Ranna last winter, and I can’t belive why I’ve had this beauty hanging in my closet for this long, when all it needed was a little bit of taking in. The skirt gives a nice touch to simple outfits, creating an eye catching detail into the mix. A true new-found gem in the closet!

Yesterday this skirt came to it’s own at a friend’s housewarming party, where my boyfriend and I headed with the stylish Laura from Drop the Phone and her boyfriend. I love meeting couples who share the same exact interests as my boyfriend and I; while Laura and I talked all night about blogging and what not, the boys found a common ground with music and fashion. How convenient!

P.S. I try to update as often as I can but I have such a busy month ahead of me, that regular blogging might be a bit difficult during the next weeks. Next weekend there is an electronic music festival, the week after that my Barbie themed b-day party, then another music festival and then there is the Halloween party we are organizing (for the latter I’ve ordered supplies all the way from the U.S.). So, hang tight!

My new boyfriend (jeans)

Guess what the postman brought me on Tuesday? Yup, the famous Levi’s 501 boyfriend jeans. I almost couldn’t believe my luck when I read that I had won these from the stylish Stella’s blog competition awhile back, and now they are actually mine (alongside with Cat Power’s latest, yay!).
Wearing Levi’s 501s again after so many years is certainly a trip down the memory lane; these used to be pretty much my uniform in elementary school and throughout junior high school as well. They are so comfy and relaxed; it feels very liberating to wear something like this after a long period of skinny jeans. It’s no wonder I’ve been wearing this every single day since I got them, even last night when we went out dancing.
Levi’s 501 boyfriend jeans – you have officially earned your way into my daily wardrobe!
