Militant

Last night I went to see a great Finnish band called Cats on Fire at a local rock club. If you’re a fan of The Smiths and Haircut 100, the Cats will definitely be your cup of tea. I think these guys are going to be big; they have already been booked to play in the UK and New York very soon. If they hit your town next, I at least recommend checking them out.

Due to somewhat of laziness, I decided to go out with pretty much what I was wearing earlier in the day at work. Naturally the belt was added later, I played around with it to make it look like a gun holster which provided a more militant and structured look to my new, extra long button-up shirt. Wearing the shoelaces only half way up brings a little more springy update on the combat boots, yet I am dreaming of these babies constantly. Must. Get. Them. NOW.

Back to the backpack

Of what I’ve noticed, I’m not the only blogger who has lately been obsessed about the small backpacks. I used to be a huge fan of these guys in elementary school (I even made one by myself) and when the first signs of 90’s comeback came about two years ago, along with floral dresses and Doc Martens, I was so sure that soon it would be time to dig them out again. Unfortunately all the cool ones I used to wear back in the day are buried somewhere deep in my parent’s attic, so I had to wait until I found a decent second hand one. I got lucky about a week ago when this local second hand shop had its discount days and actually scored myself two small backpacks.

This little fella has been with me at two clubs already but somehow I just forgot to shoot it with my outfits. It’s really versatile since you can wear it like this on one shoulder, or unzip the strap into two separate straps to wear it on both shoulders. Let me tell you, it’s so much easier to dance and walk with a backpack and it’s no wonder all those clubbers in the 90’s favored them. Today I wore mine just to run errands and paired it up with a skirt I purchased in Sweden but haven’t worn until now due to better weather conditions. Today it finally felt like spring is here!

Wristful of cuffs

It seems that I’m not the only one who has been obsessing about getting a pile of rough wrist candy after seeing images of the ever-so-stylish Elle Style Editor Kate Lanphear rocking tons of iron around her wrists. Her simple, androgyne aestethics with a touch of roughness and attitude really make my heart skip a beat, and I could easily name her as one of the most influential style icons of today. I guess the similtude of our styles is what makes me attracted to her, as I find the same aesthethics being the corner stones of my personal style.

With Kate’s chunky jewellery in my mind, I went to a store called Leather Heaven which I knew would carry all things made of leather and metal, and came back with a pyramid stud cuff and spiked “rat” cuff in my shopping bag (ps. now I’m planning on ordering this baby). Last night they served as my faithful wrists of fury when I needed some space on the dance floor of the fully packed club. Weapons of destruction or a fashion statement? You decide.

The next big ring

I have always been a ring person but due to working in the office and some other unknown reasons I somehow stopped wearing most of my rings. Now rings are back in my life and it seems I can’t get enough of them! I’m especially facinated by big rings; in fact, the bigger the better. My latest purchase is a silver armor ring from eBay which looks a much like the Vivienne Westwood one but with a fraction of the price. Very gothic yet chic, this is ring love at first sight!

Tomorrow I’m off to Sweden and I’ll be back on Monday. If I have time on the road, I will post about all the lovely shopping in Stockholm. See you soon!
