I'm turning Japanese

Last week my boyfriend and I took a little bike trip to the local botanical garden. The area is so breathtaking that I really have to go there more often to take the outfit pictures. There are hundreds of flowers, a duck pond and a beautiful mansion in the middle of it all; truly a wonderful place to hang out on a sunny day.

As for my outfit, I was inspired by the japanese style (think Comme des Garcons or Yohji Yamamoto for example). For some reason, I’m really feeling the knee length skirts right now, even though I don’t own so many at the moment (note to myself: must to get more of those!). As you might notice, I straightened my hair a wee bit after a year long break (!) but I have to admit that I prefer it when it’s wavy; it’s so much more softer that way. However, the straight look completes the outfit on this occasion.

Tomorrow I’m going to the capital city Helsinki to do some discount shopping, and after that I’m heading to a little coastal city called Hamina to enjoy the last days of my summer holiday. On Friday when I’m back from my trip, I will have a little treat for you guys, so stay tuned…

Smells like teen spirit

Yesterday I had a rather grungey day second hand shopping in this floral dress spiced up with layers and combat boots. I got this dress back in 2006 from a Goodwill store in California, knowing that 90’s would definitely be the next step after the whole blown out 80’s boom. For some reason I’ve only worn this dress a few times which is truly a pity because every time I do, I get a lot of compliments from people (particularly from men -> no granny association = weird!). Wearing it now I felt a bit bad that I haven’t shown this piece the light of day all summer, especially when in my mind floral patterns above all, are so tied up to the season. Well, there are a few summer days left, so I will make sure you will see more of this dress very soon. Especially, when my next purchase will be the white Dr. Martens.

So, last night this grungey outfit turned also into my party ensemble at Club Vintage’s 90’s night. It was once again rather nostalgic to dance to the old hits in a gear that makes you feel like you stepped right out of an episode of My So Called Life, and would be heading to Jordan Catalano’s band practice. If you are not familiar with the TV-show, I recommend getting to know Angela, Rayanne, Rickie, Brian and Jordan, merely for the inspirational reasons. I promise you won’t regret it!

Howling at the moon

My retreat in Lapland did not completely consist of residing in the country, and one sunny afternoon I decided to check out the city life of Rovaniemi. My trip to the town resulted a quick purchase of a very fashionable item from – belive it or not – a tourist shop. It was something that has been circling around the fashion world ever since Martin Margiela decided to bring them back from the 90’s last summer. So yup, as you might have guessed it, my purchase was an epic animal print t-shirt with wolves. After spending a few moments giggling and then seriously considering the shirt, I just couldn’t resist it anymore; especially after I had read this amazing story awhile back (thank’s Lulu for the link).

To test my latest find, I wore this outfit to A Place to Bury Strangers gig the other day and to be completely honest, I think some of the old time geeks might have glanced at my shirt with an approval. Does this mean I’m getting popular already? Damn, that review was right.

In the country

I feel like I’ve fallen out of the whole blogosphere by dissapearing to the Finnish Lapland for the past five days. Spending some time at my family’s summer cottage in Lapland was truly a relaxing experience: I went fishing, picking blueberries and cloudberries, running into the lake from the sauna, met up with my relatives and just laid in the hammock watching the clouds go by. I guess my inner country girl needs to be released once in a year but as for the rest of the 360 days, I’m a city girl dyed-in-the-wool.
