Blood, sweat and tears

Apologies for the radio silence, I’ve kept quite busy as my household has been turned into a little sweat shop for the past few days. The whole project started when I got frustrated for not finding the perfect, minimalistic leather tote to suit my needs and decided to make one by myself. I’m still thinking if I should box the corners to give the bag more depth, but at the same time hesitating because it might change the look of the bag to an unwanted direction. We’ll see.

The five-bar gate tally marks were purely a practical solution at first, as I had four stitches holding handle straps in place. Since four bars would have looked a bit silly on their own, I decided to add the fifth element to complete the design. They shall work as my trademark from now on.

P.S. I know that the pictures are loading very slowly at the moment, I think something is up with Imageshack. Hopefully the problem is just temporary. Hang in there folks!

    1. Kiits kovasti. 🙂 Sama juttu, kangaskasseja tuntuu olevan joka nurkassa, mutta tavallista nahka-shopperia ei meinaa löytää mistään! Onneksi löysin juuri oikeanlaisen palan nahkaa ja omaan jonkin verran ompelutaitoja. 😉

    1. Kiitti ja kyllä varmaan. 😉 Ajattelin yrittää seuraavaksi pientä käsilaukkua, mulla on mm. beessiä nahkaa ja sit tuota samaa mustaa vielä pieni pala jäljellä. Katsotaan mitä keksin.. 🙂

  3. Hieno. Tikkaukset toimii hyvin eikä toi enää muuta tarvi. 🙂 Jos saumanvarat painuu reilusti sisäänpäin niin maitoliimalla saat ne liimattua kiinni. Loistava nahkaliima vaikka tosi juoksevaa onkin.

    1. Kiitos ja kiitos myös vinkistä! 🙂 Mulla on nahkaliimaa (just sitä maitomaista) kaapissa, sillä voisi ehkä käsitellä nuo saumavarat, jos alkavat häiritsemään.

  10. Hieno laukku! Niinhän sitä sanotaan että itse tekemällä saa juuri sellaisen kuin haluaa, ja tässä tapauksessa lopputulos on kyllä erittäin onnistunut 🙂

  12. love the bag. beautiful leather – feels organic, has some texture in it – my fave kind.
    and i would suggest leaving it as it is [no box corners] – feels more pure, less commercial.

    1. Thank you! The texture of the leather is seriously amazing, I picked it because it was a bit more matte and looked more “rough”, if you know what I mean (plus it goes perfectly with my Owens heels, well, ok with everything I own, haha). I’m beginning to think that it looks better like this, although the boxing might make it a bit more usable. Hard to say. I like the minimalistic look of it right now, though. Hmm..We’ll see, we’ll see…

  13. You will def get a lot of jealous stares! It is not only in a trendy material, black but unique… probably should start thinking about mass production 😀

    1. We went out already once (the bag and I) but I think the night club was too dark for people to notice it anyway. Maybe next time then. 😉 Hmm, gotta think about that. I guess if someone wanted, I could make some extra. 😉

  15. I’ve been looking for the perfect black tote as well without any results whatsoever! I love that bag though, and you did a ridiculously good job with it. It’s simple but still different since the long silhouette isn’t very usual and all, and because of your signature of course 🙂

    1. Thank you Josefin!:) I wanted it to have a an odd silhouette and I think it woks well with the bag. I can fit more stuff in it without it being too wide and bulky. 🙂 You should totally make on yourself!!

    1. Thanks! It wasn’t too expensive, I found an amazing leather supply/importer in my town. I can’t really put a price to the piece I got because I bought in bulk. I think it was more hard work than expensive. 😉

    1. Kiitos kovasti!:) Hmmm, hyvä kysymys! Mulla on kyllä reiät korvissa, mutta en ole pitkään aikaan pitänyt korvakoruja. Jotenkin isot korvikset ahdistaa (tuli pidettyä niitä liikaa 2000-luvun alussa) ja en ole löytänyt hyviä pieniä. Pidin joskus sellaisia nappimaisia korviksia, jotka näyttää hieman plugeilta, mutta poikaystävä varasti ne heh. Mulla oli muutama viikonloppu sitten pieni roikkuva ristikoru korvassa, mutta se ei taas näkynyt asukuvassa lainkaan, tai siis unohdin kuvauttaa sen. :/ Voisin ehkä kunnostautua tämän asian kanssa, jos jotkut oikein kivat korvikset tulisi vastaan. 🙂
